The Rev Nigel Biggar is the Rt Hon. Lord Biggar of Castle Douglas and Regius Professor Emeritus of Moral Theology at the University of Oxford.
He has published academic tomes on the ethics of nationalism, war, forgiveness, assisted suicide, rights and colonialism. And he has written on the possibility of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Northern Ireland in the Irish Times, on the Iraq war in the Financial Times, on Scottish independence in Standpoint magazine, on the ethics of Trident in The Scottish Review and on free speech in The Times.
He considers himself privileged to have been born near Castle Douglas in rural southwest Scotland, where he learned at a very early age to love the landscape of Britain in all its wonderful variety. For that reason, he has long hated litter for several reasons, including its impact on nature. Nigel is a keen litter-picker and supports organisations that help keep the UK litter-free.
