We’re CleanupUK, a community litter-picking charity dedicated to engaging people in caring for their local environment. We have exciting part-time opportunities for enthusiastic individuals to join our mission.

If you can spare a few hours a week to inspire and support local communities and organisations to get involved in litter picking, this role could be perfect for you.

We’re currently recruiting eight Community Cleanup Champions to collaborate with partner organisations in the following areas and promote litter picking through our Cleanup Hub network:

  • Basildon
  • Birmingham (North and Central Birmingham)
  • Bristol
  • East Anglia (Norwich, Fenland, or Great Yarmouth)
  • East Sussex (Bexhill-on-Sea and Hastings)
  • Leeds
  • Newcastle upon Tyne
  • Rochdale & Oldham
 
What are Cleanup Hubs?
Cleanup Hubs are community spaces where individuals and groups can borrow litter-picking equipment. These hubs foster local volunteering and make it easier for everyone to get involved in keeping their area clean and tidy.
 
What does a Community Cleanup Champion do?
As a Community Cleanup Champion, you’ll:
  • Work closely with Cleanup Hubs and partner organisations to encourage litter-picking in your local area.
  • Promote volunteering and help to grow our Cleanup Hub network.
  • Represent CleanupUK at local events and engage with diverse community groups.
  • We’re looking for cheerful, fun, and environmentally conscious people who enjoy chatting with others and building connections.

Main Purpose of the Role

  • Increase the number of people borrowing litter-picking equipment from Cleanup
  • Hubs.
  • Represent CleanupUK locally by attending litter-picking events and supporting the development of Cleanup Hubs.
  • Build strong relationships with partner organisations to grow community engagement.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with Cleanup Hubs and local communities.
  • Host and attend events, reporting back to CleanupUK’s Operational Team.
  • Keep accurate records of litter-picking activity, including statistics, photos for social media, and notes on our shared database.
  • Promote the project both locally and online.
  • Conduct online research to identify potential community partners and meet with them (in-person or virtually).
  • Attend monthly team meetings online.
  • Identify local funding opportunities and share them with our fundraising team.
  • Occasionally support CleanupUK’s corporate partnerships team, such as leading a litter-picking event for a company

Charity Event Support Assistant

£14.13 per hour

Are you looking for a fun, flexible role that lets you spend time outdoors, connect with others, and make a positive impact on the environment? CleanupUK is hiring Charity Event Support Assistants to help run corporate litter-picking events across London. 

Who are CleanupUK?  
We're a small charity with a big heart and a mission to create a world where everyone has access to litter free public spaces. We do this by supporting communities to come together and form locally led litter picking initiatives to tackle the litter problem in their neighbourhood and strengthen their community.  

About the Role 
As a Charity Event Support Assistant, you’ll help facilitate engaging and lively litter-picking events with CleanupUK for corporate groups in London’s beautiful parks and green spaces. These events give teams the chance to bond, enjoy the outdoors, and do their part for the planet. These sessions also help to generate funds to support the vital work that CleanupUK does to tackle litter in areas with the most need.  

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Collect litter-picking kits and taking them to site 
  • Set up the equipment at the event site and assist with logistics.
  • Welcome and sign in participants 
  • Deliver health & safety guidance
  • Ensure the event runs smoothly 
  • Interact with volunteers, answer questions, and create a friendly, positive atmosphere. 
  • Take photos throughout the event for use by CleanupUK. 
  • Gather and pack up the equipment after the event, returning it to the central store. 

What We’re Looking For

  • Energetic, reliable, and enjoy being outside. 
  • Friendly, sociable, and good at chatting with people.
  • Passionate about the environment and clean communities. 
  • A good team player with strong timekeeping and communication skills. 

Essential: 

  • A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle. 
  • Live in London 

This role is ideal if you’re looking to gain experience in charity events, corporate social responsibility (CSR), or fundraising—or if you’re just seeking flexible, rewarding work. 

Training and Support 
We’ll provide full training and advice to prepare you for the role. You’ll also shadow our Corporate Partnerships Team at events.
