"Becoming a litter pick hub has been a natural progression of our grass roots community engagement, focused towards real life improvements! We are passionate about our environment and want to support others in making a difference.
Sincere thanks to CleanUpUK and our kind funder Riverside Housing Group for enabling us to purchase additional litter pick equipment!"
Litter pick equipment kits for both children and adults can be borrowed from the centre throughout the year. Please just give them a call to start your own local litter pick.
Picks can occur often or you could just do a one off...there are no rules or expectations and any action to reduce litter is what we are aiming for.

Alkrington, Middleton - A very successful litter pick today and a massive well done to all the group for reporting cannisters that had been found on the pick. Due the report Burnside Centre was able to forward pictures to the Environmental Management Team at Rochdale Council who quickly logged and sent out Officers to safely remove!

Today was our second outing with the new Eco-Warriors (Team 1) and they did a fantastic job, collecting two very big bags of rubbish from the local area. A local resident was so proud of the children, that they came over to our group and thanked each of the children - which really made their day. Next month marks our final Eco-Warriors litter pick of the year, and the first one by the Pre-School children of Team 2.We look forward to reporting back on how they do.

Today we ventured out with our new set of Pre-School 'Eco-Warriors' who were incredibly enthusiastic about cleaning up the local area and did an amazing first job! Children learned about different types of rubbish, how to be safe while collecting rubbish and since the children are only 3/4 year of age, learning how to use the litter pickers also aids improving their fine motor-skills. We had a clean up of Burnside Crescent with lots of smaller litter collected. It's amazing how even small bits of plastic and wrappers can make a place look untidy. We were joined by two neighbours from the flats on Burnside. While it was only 2 bags of rubbish collected, they were very full and the clean up made a positive impact!

Burnside Pre-School children joined two staff members do a litter pick of the crescent, where neighbours thanked the children for cleaning the street and we collected larger items of rubbish/fly-tipping which the council will collect later today! Today's pick is the last for some our our children as they move to Primary School but we hope they join the Eco-Teams at their new schools as we have encouraged them to do so!
