BARRATT CLEANS UP THE COUNTRY WITH NEW £100,000 PARTNERSHIP WITH CLEANUP UK

The Barratt Foundation has announced a new 1 year, £100,000 partnership with CleanUpUK to help improve local communities. CleanUpUK is a charity that organises litter picking and urban tidying across the country, helping to bring communities together through a sense of pride in their local area.

Teams from CleanUpUK, Barratt Developments PLC and the Barratt Foundation marked the launch of the new partnership with a litter picking drive at Southwark Park, South London. At the event a cheque for £100,000 was presented from Andy Button-Stephens, Head of the Barratt Foundation, to Jane Garrett, chair of Trustees at Cleanup UK.

This partnership aligns with the Barratt Foundation’s focus on supporting nature and the environment, alongside it’s existing target areas of promoting social inclusion, mental health and education. This is why it chose to partner with Cleanup UK, to help improve communities, benefiting both nature and local residents. So far Cleanup UK has helped communities to collect over 250,000 bags of litter.

As part of the partnership, Barratt Developments is asking all of its 29 Divisions and 5,000+ employees to get involved with Cleanup UK to help give litter picking and tidying a big boost in the communities in which it builds.

Mark Rolfe, chair of the Barratt Foundation, said “We’re proud to be partnering with Cleanup UK, who do so much good helping groups to tidy up their local area by providing all the equipment and advice that is needed for litter picking. Cleaner communities benefit everyone, not just us but nature and wildlife too.”

Jane Garrett, chair of Cleanup UK said, “Through this partnership, we have enabled Barratt Divisions across the UK to take to their local streets and green spaces and start litter-picking; creating cleaner, greener and healthier spaces for the local community and the environment. Barratt’s team members will be ambassadors for behaviour change around litter. Their incredibly generous donation will support the vital work that we do in deprived communities. Our aim is to operate in the 100 most deprived local authority areas and The Barratt Foundation will be helping us well along the way to achieve this.”
