Amelia Thorogood

Cleanup Champion (East Anglia)

I’m Amelia, Cleanup Champion for East Anglia.

I live at the most easterly point in the UK - Lowestoft, and can often be found with my dogs on the beach picking up litter and collecting sea glass.

I am Chief Womble at Suffolk Beach Cleans, a community action group created to raise awareness of the impact of littering in our towns and coastlines and to create opportunities for individuals to come together to clean up where we live and work. We work with the local community, schools and companies to encourage people to feel that they can make a difference and that every individual contribution to the global litter problem is important and valuable. By working together, caring for each other and our environment we can make a difference to the world we live in.

After many years of teaching in secondary schools, I am excited to have let myself out and to now have the opportunity to use my skills to develop Clean Up Hubs in East Anglia. We have a choice to do nothing or be part of the solution!
