Annie Whitehead
Cleanup Champion (Leeds)
I'm Annie, Cleanup Champion for Leeds.
I have always cared about the environment. I am interested in helping make local environmental improvement through informing people of possibilities. For many years I worked in sustainable waste management, advising clients on ways to reduce, recycle and recover, as well as encouraging more innovative ways to think about managing their waste arisings. After leaving project management, I continued to be involved in environmental projects through volunteering including litter picking! Almost anyone can litter pick and make an instant improvement to their local environment.
As well as my work for CleanupUK I also set up community compost schemes. The project aims to take the ‘yuk’ out of composting and enable a wider range of people to get involved. Compost Collective Leeds helps volunteers to have fun and promote environmental awareness through community involvement.
In my spare time I garden, including a bit of local growing, visit the sea, gardens and art galleries and walk in Britain’s beautiful nature spots.
