In October 2024, CleanupUK proudly launched its partnership with BNP Paribas, supporting the company's commitment to having a positive impact on society and the environment. This partnership includes three fully organised litter-picks and the sponsorship of a new Cleanup Hub in the London Borough of Camden.

CleanupUK’s Chief Executive, George Monck, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting BNP Paribas’s commitment to sustainability:

I am delighted that BNP Paribas has chosen CleanupUK to be one of its charity partners, especially because BNP Paribas is a leader in the sustainable finance movement and is committed to achieving carbon neutrality."

A RECORD BREAKING FIRST EVENT

The first litter-pick took place at Mile End Park in London, and it was a resounding success. The event was both BNP Paribas’s and CleanupUK’s largest ever employee volunteering event to date.

Tracey Fuller, UK Head of Community Engagement and Impact at BNP Paribas, was overjoyed by the partnership and outcome of our first litter-pick:

“We love our new partnership with CleanupUK and share the same values as they do - to support our local communities and help create cleaner, healthier and safer spaces for everyone to enjoy. It was wonderful that 86 volunteers turned out for our first event in Mile End Park, Tower Hamlets, collecting a whopping 130 bags of litter. They were so energised to get stuck in and come together to have a positive impact. Can’t wait for our next event in Glasgow!”

REDUCING CARBON EMISSIONS AND ENCOURAGING SUSTAINABILITY

Additionally, this event served as the pilot data collection for CleanupUK’s study on the carbon-saving benefits of litter picking. Volunteers got stuck in, analysing and weighing the litter they found and meticulously recording the data – a meaningful way to wrap up an impactful day.

By actively engaging in litter-picks and supporting community action through sponsoring a Cleanup Hub, BNP Paribas continues to show its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, taking significant steps towards fostering a more sustainable culture. These initiatives not only help improve local environments for people and biodiversity, but also inspire others to follow suit.

THE FUTURE OF THE PARTNERSHIP

Looking ahead, the partnership plans to continue making an impact with a second litter-pick in November, engaging volunteers from the Glasgow office, followed by another event in London in March 2025. CleanupUK will also be moving ahead with plans to set up the BNP Paribas sponsored Cleanup Hub, with a community partner in Camden.

Together, CleanupUK and BNP Paribas are committed to fostering cleaner, greener spaces for everyone to enjoy. Stay tuned for updates on these upcoming events!
