The Davina Hodson Memorial Awards 2024
In memory of our dear friend and supporter, Davina Hodson, CleanupUK is proud to launch the Davina Hodson Community Cleanup Awards.
Davina Hodson was a long-standing supporter and a friend to CleanupUK. She was kind, considerate, fun, and a very practical lady. Davina considered herself very lucky with what she had in life and wanted to share this with charities.
She was a regular donor to our work. An opera fan and keen golfer, Davina was twice Ladies Captain of Malden Golf Club, Chair and President of the charity, Counsel and Care, and a Patron of English National Opera. What drove and motivated her involvement with these and the many other organisations she supported like CleanupUK, was the people they supported and the challenges they often faced.
Davina was very charitable and preferred to give money to causes she was interested in rather than spending money on herself. Davina left a legacy gift to seven charities, of which CleanupUK was lucky enough to be one. Her bequest has been transformational for our charity and so we wanted to recognise Davina’s contribution by launching these awards in her honour.
Davina had a wicked sense of humour, loved life and made the most of it. She would have been utterly charmed and immensely tickled by these awards in her name.
Award Categories
We will award £300 each to the winning litter picking groups and Cleanup hubs and a £100 prize to the young litter picker award. These prizes will be awarded to those who we feel have made the biggest impact and had the most fun, cleaning up their environment together with their local communities.
Most Engaging Community CleanupHub
This award will chosen by CleanupUK and will go to a Cleanup Hub in our network that has successfully engaged the highest number of local people in litter-picking activities this year.
Most FUN Themed Litter Picking Event
This award is all about fun! At CleanupUK we believe litter picking should be enjoyable. Nominate a hub or group that hosted the best themed event – whether it was Halloween fancy dress with pumpkin spice lattes, Christmas jumpers with mince pies, or even a Valentine’s Day pick for singles!
Whatever the theme, we’ll need to see photographic evidence and hear why the pick was so much fun!
Best Transformation of a Public Space
This award goes to the group that has transformed their local area most effectively for example - turning a “grot spot” into a community vegetable garden.
We will need your nominations for this one with photo evidence of before and after required please.
Young Litter Picker (Under 16)
This award celebrates the next generation of community leaders. It’s for young environmental champions under 16 who have made an outstanding contribution to cleaning up their local area through litter picking and environmental activities. Share their story, photos, and tell us why they deserve to win!
.
Nominations are now open!
The deadline for nominations is 30th November and winners will be announced before Christmas.
If you know someone who deserves recognition in one of the categories above, we’d love to hear from you!
All nominations must include photographic evidence.
